Squeeze flow rheometry and data analysis of carbon fiber sheet molding compounds

نویسندگان

چکیده

The compression molding process of carbon fiber sheet compounds (CF-SMC) is characterized by a squeeze flow the material. There are no standardized measurement methods to characterize behavior CF-SMC and conventional shear-flow dominated plastics processing not suitable describe elongational deformation mode during molding. objective this work was develop methodology determine rheological properties two materials. This included development device necessary software tools efficiently analyze data. experimental findings were used calibrate power law models for both materials validated with numerical simulations.

Volumetrical Characterization of Sheet Molding Compounds

For a comprehensive study of Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) surfaces, topographical data obtained by chromatic confocal imaging were submitted systematically for the development of a profile model to understand the formation of cavities on the surface. In order to qualify SMC surfaces and to predict their coatability, a characterization of cavities is applied. To quantify the effect of surface mo...

Solution for Carbon fiber Wet-Out Issue for Low Cost Sheet Molding Carbon Fiber Composite Production1 Continental Structural Plastics

Poor wetting leads to underperforming composite properties and has been a major obstacle in implementing low cost carbon fibers in SMC parts. The objective of this project is to solve the technical challenge of poor carbon fiber wet-through during Sheet Molding Composite (SMC) process. Continental Structural Plastics (CSP) partnered with ORNL to develop a new sizing technique called Point Sizin...

Analysis of Carbon Fiber Sheet Retrofitted Rc Bridge Columns

Experimental studies were conducted by some researchers to investigate the cyclic performance of CFSretrofitted columns; however there is a need to develop analytical methods which can simulate its hysteretic response. This study presents an analysis of the hysteretic behavior of CFS-retrofitted reinforced concrete circular columns. Fiber element analysis was conducted based on cyclic constitut...

Functionalized carbon-nanotube sheet/bismaleimide nanocomposites: mechanical and electrical performance beyond carbon-fiber composites.

Since their discovery in 1991, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been considered as the next-generation reinforcement materials to potentially replace conventional carbon fibers for producing super-high-performance lightweight composites. Herein, it is reported that sheets of millimeter-long multi-walled CNTs with stretch alignment and epoxidation functionalization reinforce bismaleimide resin, whic...
